Sarah’s Giving Back Day
Last year New Directions made the commitment as a business to participate in ‘Giving Back Days’, an initiative encouraging our employees to dedicate time to a cause they are passionate about. Whether that be a sponsored activity, involve a financial contribution or an opportunity to support local charities, organisations, activities, or projects, it has to positively impact the local community in some way.
A ‘Giving Back Day’ is a fully paid day for each of our employees, and they can choose to do it individually or as part of a team!
Sarah Anderson, our Web Development Manager, chose to dedicate her Giving Back Day to her local children’s hospice, Claire House. Claire House helps terminally ill children make the most of the time they have, however long or short that may be. They provide specialist nursing and end-of-life care, as well as emotional support, helping families through some of the toughest times of their lives.
To raise money for the hospice, Sarah spent the day making fudge resulting in more than 100 bags of fudge sold, which is about 12-13kg of fudge, across five different flavours! If you would like the recipe for Sarah’s fudge, click here.
Her efforts raised around £400, which went towards her friend’s London Marathon fundraising as the hospice was her dedicated charity.
“I chose Claire House Children’s Hospice as it is our local hospice for sick children requiring palliative care, and for their siblings to have somewhere to escape. I’ve known a couple of children who have benefitted from their services and experience. What they provide is so important for these poor children and their families to make memories together. Having lost my own four-year-old niece to a brain tumour, I know how important that time is for families.”
When you start with us, you can use your ‘Giving Back Day’ immediately which could be used for a cause that’s important to you, just like Sarah. Find out more about what we offer as a company here.
