Colleges merge into Cardiff and Vale
Barry College and Cardiff’s Coleg Glan Hafren have been discussing a merger since 2008 and together will form one of the country’s largest colleges serving 25,000 students in the Cardiff and Barry areas.
Over 300 suggestions for a new name were put forward and stakeholders decided on Cardiff and Vale College.
Jacquie Turnbull and Peter Cope, chairmen of the colleges’ governing bodies, said in a joint statement: “Now that our vision has a name, a name that our staff and key stakeholders have championed, we will be working together to ensure Cardiff and Vale College lives up to its billing as the college for the whole capital region when it opens its doors to students in September.”
