Job Description

New Directions Education are looking to recruit a Humanities Teacher to work in secondary schools across the Powys borough who can enrich the learning and development of KSK3 and KS4 students. We are looking for candidates who would like to work on both long-term placements and ad hoc to work different days throughout the week at your preference.

The right candidate will need to demonstrate:

. Strong classroom management and organisational skills

. Demonstrate a high degree of initiative

. Be able to work independently as well as part of a faculty team

. Have the ability to motivate pupils and achieve excellent results

We are looking for both experienced and newly qualified teachers to apply. However, you must hold QTS. Even for unsuccessful candidates of this role there is still the opportunity for casual and flexible work with us, we give you full control of when you want to work.

Job Specification

New Directions have on-going supply teaching jobs for humanities teachers in all areas.

These positions are available for qualified teachers who can teach Key Stage 3 (KS3), Key Stage 4 (KS4) and possibly Key Stage 5 (KS5).

Newly qualified teachers (NQTs) looking for teaching work should also apply.

The humanities teacher role may require teaching of the following subjects: art history, classical studies, creative writing, English language and English literature, history, modern languages, music, philosophy, sociology and religious studies.

This role has a focus on personal and social development and pastoral care. If you have an interest in all things anthropological, a humanities teaching post may be the right role for you.

As a humanities teacher you’ll be expected to:

  • Teach all areas of the school curriculum or your subject specialism
  • Organise the classroom and learning resources to create a positive teaching environment
  • Plan, prepare and teach lessons that cater for all student ability ranges
  • Motivate pupils with enthusiastic, imaginative presentation
  • Maintain discipline
  • Meet requirements for the assessment and recording of pupils’ development
  • Coordinate activities and resources within a specific area of the curriculum, supporting colleagues in the delivery of this specialist area
  • Stay up to date with changes and developments in the structure of the curriculum
  • Take part in school events and activities which may take place at weekends or in the evening
  • Liaise with colleagues and working flexibly, particularly within smaller schools
