Job Description

New Directions are seeking a Teaching Assistant – SEND to join a School based in Southport working closely with SEND students, supporting their academic, social, and emotional development within the classroom. This is a long term role starting immediately. You will assist in delivering tailored support to students with a variety of learning needs, ensuring that they can access the curriculum and fully participate in school life. Due to an increase in student numbers, we are seeking to appoint a number of Teaching Assistants who are willing to go the “extra mile” in supporting our pupils to achieve their full potential.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • A patient, empathetic, and flexible approach to supporting students with varying needs.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Be encouraging and supportive
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the students
  • Support students with a range of SEND needs (including autism, dyslexia, ADHD, physical disabilities, and emotional needs) in their lessons, ensuring they have equal access to learning opportunities.

Job Specification

  • Have experience working with children, or adults, with additional needs
  • Able to support children of all abilities.
  • Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning.
  • Whilst previous experience of working in a SEN environment would be desirable, candidates who possess the right motivation, personal qualities and levels of resilience are just as important.
  • Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safegaurding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.
  • Experience of working with students with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), ADHD, or other specific learning needs.
