Ferndale Comprehensive Pupils Experience the World of Work at New Directions Education
New Directions Education in Cardiff welcomed four pupils from Ferndale Comprehensive to undertake work experience for a week. The pupils were given the opportunity to spend a week with different teams across the business to gain experience of a working environment. New Directions Education has a close working relationship with the Ferndale Comprehensive school who utilise New Directions Education to recruit for Teaching and non-teaching staff.
As part of New Directions commitment to support the communities we work in, we provide opportunities for students to experience the working environment and supporting them by trying to match their interests with the placements we provide. Two of the students Ben Walkinshaw and Dale Deere expressed an interest in IT so were given the opportunity to work within the IT department.
Some of the work undertaken by Ben and Dale included installing printer drivers and completing asset management work. Ben commented ‘it has been exciting getting the opportunity to attend work for a week, I have enjoyed my time at New Directions’ Dale added ‘we have been made to feel very welcome at New Directions Education and I have enjoyed my time here, working with the IT team was interesting and has taught me a lot’
Kate George, Account Manager at New Directions Education commented ‘I have worked with Ferndale Comprehensive for a number of years and have an exceptional relationship with the school. All four pupils from Ferndale Comprehensive have been a credit to the school, they were all exceptionally well behaved and polite young men.
