Shropshire College raises an impressive £9K at summer fete

Derwen College a residential college for students with additional learning needs in Gobowen, Shropshire has raised a massive £9k at their annual fete.

The College held the successful summer fete in mid-June which saw visitors flocking to the event amid glorious sunshine. The day offered a vast array of attractions and activities for the visiting crowds including go-kart rides, a coconut shy, penalty shootout, bottle stall, bric-a-brac stands and cake stalls.

Local organisations supported the event, by donating their time, activities and various raffle prizes, including an iPad Air which was offered as first prize in the grand draw.

Local recruitment and training provider, New Directions Education was involved with the event providing a penalty shootout game for the day, which proved a popular attraction. Holly Wrisdale, Recruitment Consultant for the team said of the festivities “it was such a well-attended event; it really justified the amount of effort that was obviously invested by everyone involved. Derwen College 100% echoes our own values as an organisation and this community event demonstrated just that – the amount raised was outstanding”.

Paul Crosby, secretary of the Friends of Derwen said “The Friends of the Derwen are most grateful for all the support received from local organisations and businesses, which is most valuable and contributes to the success of the event.”

The day also saw Duke of Edinburgh students demonstrating their skills around the camp fire toasting marshmallows and helping customers to have a go themselves.

In total the organisation raised an impressive £8,969.90. The event generated additional footfall through Derwen College’s shopping and leisure area which meant all commercial areas and the market stall had a busy day too, resulting in a successful day all-round.
