Four Year Old School Boy Wins National Design Competition
A four year old school boy from Ysgol Y Graig, Llangefni based in Anglesey in North Wales has won first prize in a national Christmas card design competition.
The competition run by leading recruitment and training provider New Directions Education is now in its fifteenth year of running. Applications were invited from the schools and colleges across the UK and the team received over 1,000 entries. Four year old North Wales schoolboy Osian Williams was announced as the eventual winner. Osian was delighted to have his design utilised as the New Directions’ corporate Christmas card, the school was also presented with a cheque by New Directions for £500.
Mrs Eirianwen Williams, Headteacher of Ysgol Y Graig said, ‘I am overwhelmed with the prize. I have decided to allocate the funds from the competition to Osian’s class to purchase new equipment.’
Howard Burge, National Director for New Directions said of the competition ‘each year our teams process hundreds of applications for this competition. I witnessed first-hand a sack full of entries from the postman in Cardiff on more than one occasion. Osian’s image was selected anonymously by our panel, and to read that he was just four years old was quite overwhelming – perhaps we have a young designer of the future in our midst’.
The Christmas card was professionally printed and has been delivered to over 5,000 schools and businesses across England and Wales.
