The name of a new high school to replace Llandrindod and Builth Wells has been revealed.
Both schools are due to close in July and will be transformed into one large bilingual school. The new school will operate on the two existing sites from September 2018.
Powys County Council has now revealed it intends on naming the school Ysgol Calon Cymru, which translates as the ‘Heart of Wales School’.
County Councillor Hywel Lewis, who represents Llangunllo, has given his full support on the name change, recently stating; “I am in full agreement with the chosen name for the new Mid Wales school.”
We at New Directions are looking forward to seeing the new school and hope to carry on our positive & friendly relationship with Llandrindod High School soon to be ‘Ysgol Calon Cymru’ after the merge.
Pupils and staff at Builth Wells High and Llandrindod High were able to get involved during the naming process with the council as well as with pupils in years five and six of the feeder primary schools.
