SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception

New Direction Education is recruiting a dedicated SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception with experience of working with students who have additional needs such as autism (ASC). This role is a 1:1 role where the SEN Teaching Assistant – Reception will work on a 1:1 basis with an early years pupil with autism. This role is a lovely primary school in the hub of North Manchester – and is commutable by bus, train and of course, car.

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Be encouraging and supportive.
  • Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children’s development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.

Job Specification:

  • Supervise and provide learning support for a child on a one to one basis
  • Assist with the development of individual education and behavioural plans setting challenging expectations for pupils to achieve learning goals.
  • Establish trusting relationships with pupils and interact with them according to individual needs and personalities.
  • Collaborate with SENDCo and Class Teacher to ensure the highest level of provision
  • Encourage pupils to interact with the class and engage in activities.

Person Specification

  • A solid understanding of the EYFS curriculum
  • Experience with autism
  • Experience of working with children with speech, language needs
  • Be outgoing, fun and engaging
  • Willing to support children of all abilities and needs
  • Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning
  • Experience working in the education and training sector
