Job Description

New Directions Education is collaborating with an outstanding primary school in Huyton to fill the role of a supportive teaching assistant. This opportunity arises as the school seeks to maintain its high standards of education and student support, following a recent Ofsted inspection that recognised its excellence.

Job Specification

  • Have experience working with children, or adults, with additional needs
  • Able to support children of all abilities.
  • Have a positive and ambitious attitude to learning.
  • Support the class teacher in delivering lessons and activities.
  • Your work will be challenging and rewarding in equal measure and you will be working in a school where we maintain a strong safe guarding culture, where pupils are listened to, respected and involved in as many decisions as possible.
  • Experience of working in a child like environment.

 

Responsibilities of the role included but are not limited to:

  • Have excellent communication skills.
  • Be able to build strong relationships with students and staff.
  • Be encouraging and supportive.
  • Have a positive attitude towards teaching and aiding children development.
  • Ensure the safety and well-being of the student.

Although the role is based around education support, due to the children’s personal needs and behaviours they require consistent mentoring, motivating and advising, as well as some counselling, so their well-being can remain stable meaning they can achieve much more in their education and work towards an more independent future.

Behaviors displayed by the children can be challenging so applicants must be prepared to practice De-escalation and calming techniques, as well maintaining an empathetic approach and understanding behaviors stems from other problems. candidates from care, sports, psychology, criminology, sociology and youth work backgrounds are encouraged to apply.
