Recruitment Consultant gets on her Bike
A Recruitment Consultant from Cardiff has taken advantage of her employers new cycle-to-work scheme. Dee O’Callaghan of New Directions Pharmacy has become the first employee from the business to take advantage of the scheme.
The scheme is available to employers across the UK and aims to encourage more people to get fit, save money and avoid traffic issues. Individuals can save up to 32% on the cost of a bike with no tax implications.
Dee had been investigating purchasing a bike when New Directions announced participation in the scheme. She lives approximately two miles from the Cardiff city centre office and is hoping to use it in her daily commute. Dee will pay for her bike over a 12 month period via small deductions from her monthly pay.
She says of the opportunity to purchase a bike: ‘I think it is a great chance to buy a bike that is of the best quality. If I am being honest I would not have bought the bike outright. This scheme offered me the opportunity to get a good bike and hardly notice the cost. It is a small amount that is deducted from my salary on a monthly basis.’
As Cardiff celebrates its second annual Cycle Festival, New Directions is encouraging all employees to take advantage of the cycle to work scheme. Sophie Cecil, HR Director for the group comments: ‘We are delighted to implement the cycle to work scheme here at New Directions. As well as saving money on commuting, employees can help contribute to lowering the UK carbon footprint’.
