On Tuesday 29th January 2013, the New Directions Social Care team were invited in to Barry’s premier community radio station BRO Radio to discuss the recruitment and training offer from the team.
Kirsty Knowles, Consultant for the team joined Geoff Selby, one of the radios most celebrated broadcasters. The pair had met a week earlier at a job fayre in Barry, where employers spoke with members of the public about vacancies in their business.
Speaking about her visit to the station Kirsty said ‘We were absolutely delighted to join Geoff on his popular daytime discussion show. To be able to voice our offer to people across the Vale of Glamorgan on the airwaves was amazing. I was personally absolutely delighted to have the opportunity to visit a radio station and see how it all works.’
Kirsty was joined by Ruth Dalton, Group Communications Manager for New Directions who added ‘To have the opportunity to voice our offer live on air was fantastic. Kirsty was able to articulate what we were looking for in terms of candidates for current vacancies. We were also delighted to support the Vale in a drive to up employment rates in the area.’
Radio BRO has a reach of 8,500 listeners and is operated by volunteers from across the region. Geoff Selby is a partially sighted broadcaster who broadcasts six days a week. The station supports Geoff with a number of vision aids to allow him to perform his role to the best of his fantastic abilities.
