New Directions recently linked up with Cardiff and Vale College to support their ICT Level 1 students with work experience opportunities. The business worked with the college employability team to facilitate two opportunities for young people to gain experience of a working week in a busy office.
Mehnaz Khan, Communications Assistant for New Directions took responsibility for supporting one of the students with a week in the busy marketing and communications department. Speaking of the experience Mehnaz said: ‘Our department never has two days that run the same. I think this challenged our student, but he seemed to enjoy it’.
Harriet Desira, Administrator for the New Directions Compliance team was a mentor to another student. She said of the work experience week: ‘Making the jump from college to work is quite a shock to the system, but our student fitted in comfortably and enjoyed a couple of training sessions with our in-house training department too’.
The pair from the college had the opportunity to meet with other teams within the business to see how the whole operation fitted together. After spending some time working with the IT team, both students expressed a desire to pursue a career within the ICT sector.
New Directions is committed to supporting the communities they work within. The opportunity to offer an opportunity to individuals to learn was embraced by the whole team.
